Meet The Crew
We are a team of 5 students from the Event Management program at Algonquin College. The Event Management program is working toward a fundraising goal of $1 million for the Children's Wish Foundation. Over the past 5 years, the students of this program have raised over $550,000 for this charity. The program faculty and our team are dedicated to reaching this goal.
Julia Montgomery
Julia graduated with an Arts Degree from Carleton University last spring, and couldn’t wait to start her final year at Algonquin College in the Event Management Program. Julia grew up in Ottawa, and she is excited to start working in the event industry once she graduates. She is learning a lot by volunteering in the city, especially volunteering at the Ottawa Convention Centre for the Living Green Expo and working as a Family Ministries Event Coordinator at St. James Church in Carp. Julia has had a blast working with four amazing women in creating Sailing to a Wish and can’t wait to show her family and friends her progress.
Sam Ingleson
Born and raised in the nation’s capital, Sam became fascinated with event management after watching “The Wedding Planner” when she was just 8 years old. Her interest grew into ambition as she invested her time into student council, countless activities and several committees in her high school and college years. She received her diploma in Hospitality Management – Hotel & Restaurant from Algonquin College in the spring of 2013 and is currently volunteering her time with The Canadian Cancer Society’s fundraising team until she graduates in April. Sam feels so lucky to be a part of such an amazing Wish Team and has no doubt that “Sailing to a Wish: Who done it on the Bluenose?” will be a great success.
Christina WAlsh
Christina grew up in Pickering, Ontario. She attended Queen’s University and graduated with a major in History and a minor in French studies. After her undergraduate degree, Christina spent a year abroad working as an au pair in Fontainebleau, France. Christina is excited to work in events and to plan functions that bring people together for purpose and pleasure. Christina has really enjoyed planning “Sailing to a Wish” and has really enjoyed working with the other ladies!
KArla Belton
Karla grew up in the small town of Arnprior, Ontario. She first realized she wanted to be an Event Planner, 6 years ago while at her first event; the TELUS CUP – National Major Midget Championship. After being involved with a major event Karla fell in love with the planning, organizing and being a part of a team. Since then Karla has been involved with so many Provincial, National and World Events. Now Karla runs her own successful Charity Event called “Annual Candlelighters Charity Mixed Lob Ball Tournament” that is held every June in Arnprior. Karla cannot wait to start her career in the events world after graduating Algonquin College.

Marcy grew up about 3 hours away from Ottawa in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Coming out of high school, she knew that hospitality and event planning was going to be her career path. In first year, she started at Algonquin College in the Hospitality Management diploma program. After two years of hospitality, she knew that Event Management was going to be the next step. Marcy’s event experience includes working with the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Picton, Ontario, planning large-scale events for students in the Algonquin College Residence, volunteering at the Picton Fair, and many more other projects.
